How Weird are Dreams?

Have you even woken up from a dream and all you could think was “What the fuck was that”, or what about when you’re having the best dream ever and then all of a sudden you wake up and instantly get depressed because it wasn’t real.. Man I fucking love dreams. But what exactly is a dream? and what do your dreams actually mean? Good questions. There are many different theories as to what dreams are and what they mean, for example it is said that Egyptians believed dreams were a way of communicating with the gods or prophecies of certain events. ← That prophecy theory is a bit weird if you ask me, how would you explain those fucked up dreams you have about a flying whale? or going to school and realising you have no clothes on? Or do you guys have normal dreams and im the weirdo?

The most popular theory is from a man named Sigmund Freud, I’m sure you’ve at least heard the name before. This bloke believed every dream we have is some sort of hidden desire, a desire that is not accessable in waking life. So say you wanted to bang your boss at work, that’s highly inappropriate and probably never going to happen right? So you would dream about it. Freud had all sorts of crazy theories about shit that we did and why we did it, actually quite interesting. I somewhat agree with what he’s getting at though, but I don’t really think thats the whole reason for why we dream.. I believe its our brains way of processing all the pointless information it took in while we were awake, those random faces we saw, the weird thoughts we had, our fears etc. To me that is what makes sense, but who knows the real reason.

One thing that is super important is sleep. How good is sleep right? Remember being a kid and nap time was the fucking worst? Yeah and then you grew up and now all you think about during the day is bed time. We have 4 stages of sleep, this shit is actually pretty interesting so remember this:

Stage One

During the first stage of sleep you become very relaxed, you are still able to hear surrounding noises but you don’t really take much notice, Another thing that happens is that your brainwaves start to slow down, if you’re anything like me you will twitch like crazy during this stage too, ar get that messed up sensation that feels like you’re falling and then just as you’re about to hit the floor your whole body jerks.

Stage Two

During stage 2 your brain waves slow down even more and it becomes harder to wake, your heart rate also begins to decrease even more.

Stage Three

This stage is the most restorative stage of sleep, where our body heals itself and regenerates its cells. It is pretty hard to wake someone up when they are in this stage of sleep also. If you are a person that sleep walks or talks or what not, you are most likely to be in this stage of sleep when that occurs

Stage Four (REM)

The REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep is where dreams occur. Eye movements are more rapid and our brainwaves are similar to when we are awake. If you were to wake someone in REM sleep they would be disoriented and extremely groggy, This is usually why when our alarms go off and we are in a deep sleep we feel like fuckin shit.

Lucid Dreaming

How fucking cool is lucid dreaming? If you don’t know what it is it is basically the ability to control what happens in your dream. In order to do this you have to actually know you’re dreaming. There are tips on learning and training yourself to be able to do it, so if you like the sound of being able to lucid dream then click here.

Sleep Paralysis

This shit is scary as fuck. Google some experiences that people have had, I dare you. Fuck that. During the stages of sleep our body goes into a sort of paralysed state. this is to prevent us from acting out our dreams. Our brain usually knows when we are awake so it stops this paralysis state. BUT sometimes this isn’t the case, we wake up and can’t move. I know right, FUCK THAT!

I have had some fucked up dreams in my 23 years of life, I remember having the same dream over and over, I was sky diving without a parachute and the butterflies in my stomach hurt so bad and they felt like they lasted for ever! Or this one dream I was Spider-Man, then i woke up and I was just stupid ol me and I was sad all day. The dreams I hate waking up from are the ones with celebrities in them though. I had one where I was married to a celeb and then I woke up and generally felt in love with them, it was fucked up.

I love this topic, I want you guys to comment your weirdest dream or what you think dreams mean! Do they have a prophecy type meaning? Are they our suppressed desires? What do you think??

I get sleep paralysis, it used to be quite regular and I would also have a dark shadow spirit over me and I could literally feel the breath on my face. My eyes would be wide open and I would try to scream but couldn’t. The only way I can get out of it is if I hold my breath. Apart from that and nightmare I love dreams too! Haha
